How much does it cost to charter a boat in the Caribbean?

Yacht charter prices will vary depending on the type of boat you charter and if you need to hire a skipper and/or any additional crew members. Charter boats can sleep from 2 to 10 passengers and then there are motor sailers and gulets that can accommodate even more people. The style of charter can also range from bareboat options to basic self catering options with a hired skipper to high-end luxury superyachts with all meals provided by your very own chef and crew. Another important price determinant is the season, charter prices in the Caribbean islands will usually be more expensive from November to August. Prices tend to peak from mid-December until beginning of January and from February to April. That said, even if you are on a tight budget you can still enjoy a sailing holiday by hiring a yacht with friends or simply find options to share the cost with other keen sailors. There are a number of companies that offer options to share a skippered boat with others, provided you sail on set dates and itineraries planned by the company. The prices per person are similar to chartering a private boat, which are ideal for the solo traveller looking for a reasonably priced sailing holiday. However, if you prefer to have a private charter, you will find that most yachts can accommodate up to 11 guests plus a skipper. Weekly skippered charters start at about $USD100 per person per day. If your sailing group exceeds 10 people, you may want to look at options for renting a larger vessel such as a gullet. These boats are normally hired with a crew, but sharing the cost between a group can end up to be a very economical sailing option. Finally, if you want a vessel with more space, such as a catamaran or a luxury motor sailer, or a boat with extra crew members, just ask for it in your sailing request.
